Fall might be cozy-candle season, but it’s also Q4 season—aka deadlines, inbox overload, and that end-of-year hustle we all secretly dread. To avoid burnout and actually enjoy this season, I’ve been focusing on romanticizing my workdays: slowing down, being intentional, and making small shifts that bring me joy. Here are the ones that have made the biggest difference:
1. Focus on what you love about your job
Even if it’s just one thing, reminding yourself why you enjoy parts of your work can shift your whole mindset. For me, it’s the flow I get into while writing.
2. Upgrade your workspace
Add little touches that make you happy—a seasonal candle, cozy blanket, or fresh desktop background. A pretty setup can actually make you more productive.
3. Plan your breaks
Swap mindless scrolling for intentional pauses: a walk outside, a coffee ritual, or a call to someone you love. Real breaks = real energy.
4. Engage your senses
Light a candle, play soft music, wear something comfortable, and sip your favorite tea. When work feels like a vibe, you enjoy it more.
5. Set boundaries
Don’t say yes to everything. Delegate where you can and carve out time for yourself—you’ll show up happier and more focused.
6. Slow your response time
Not every email or Slack ping is an emergency. Take a beat before replying—you’ll reduce stress and avoid back-and-forth miscommunication.
7. Dedicate mornings to yourself
Start the day with even 10 minutes just for you. Tea before Slack, a stretch before email—it helps you feel grounded, creative, and ready for whatever’s ahead.
