Powder baths are tiny—but when done right, they leave a lasting impression. Unlike other rooms where function often takes precedence, a powder bath is an opportunity to create an experience—a compact moment of calm where every material shines.
During our Zuma Beach House renovation, our powder bath measured just 20 square feet. But in small spaces, intention matters more than size. Every surface, texture, and detail had to earn its place.
The Challenge: Making 20 Square Feet Feel Big
Powder baths often get the leftover budget, yet small rooms are where you can invest boldly. Here, we leaned into intimacy, layering rich textures, striking geometry, and materials that feel tactile and luxurious.
Zellige That Makes a Statement
The star of the space is a floor-to-ceiling trapezoid zellige backsplash from Zia Tile. Unlike traditional subway or square tiles, these trapezoids create a geometric pattern that feels timeless yet fresh. Each handmade tile varies slightly, giving the wall life and texture.
Running the tile vertically draws the eye upward, enhancing the sense of height while turning a small wall into a show-stopping centerpiece.
Sculptural Lighting
Above the mirror, a black pendant from Lightology adds sculptural interest. Its dark finish contrasts beautifully with the warm zellige and brass accents, bringing a modern, organic edge to the space.
Brass That Ages Beautifully
Unlacquered brass fixtures from Kallista’s One collection bring warmth and character. Over time, fingerprints and water spots develop into a rich patina, adding story and personality. A round brass mirror from Rejuvenation echoes the warm tones while softening the geometric lines of the tile.
Walls Like a Soft Embrace
We used Patagonia Roman Clay from Portola Paints, a soft, textured neutral that adds depth and serenity. The handcrafted finish creates a cocoon-like feel, giving the room a spa-like, inviting quality.
Contrast of Rustic and Refined
The Caesarstone Marenstone countertop provides sleek sophistication, while a reclaimed wood floating shelf adds warmth and history. This tension between refined and rustic materials is a hallmark of the design, creating a space that feels collected, not staged.
On the floors, Stuga wood in “Ingrid” grounds the palette and connects to the organic materials throughout the home.
Yes, I’m In Love With This Toilet
We installed the ME by Starck Wall Mounted Toilet from Duravit, chosen for its sleek, minimal design. In a small powder bath, thoughtful fixtures make a big impact.
Small Space, Major Statement
This powder bath proves that square footage doesn’t dictate luxury. From geometric zellige to living brass finishes, every detail was intentional. The goal? When guests enter, they pause, notice, and experience a moment of unexpected beauty.
Even the tiniest rooms can feel timeless, layered, and utterly luxurious when every material and detail is chosen with care.
